Language Learning Resources at Willamette University

This guide collects resources for studying languages while at Willamette University, and on your own. Many of the sections mention resources available in the Digital Learning Studio (DLS), which is located in Ford Hall 101, on the first floor.

Language Spaces on WISE

You can join language spaces on WISE by following the directions in the document below.

Frequently Asked Questions about WISE

Q: How do I Sign up for a site on WISE? Ex: “My Spanish Space”

  1. Log into your WISE account.
  2. In the My Workspace menu, click on "Membership."
  3. Click on "Joinable Sites" tab.
  4. Search for the site you want to join.  
  5. Once you click on "Join" under site, the site will appear either as a tab at the top of the page or as one of the choices in the drop-down menu that says <More >

Q: How do I sign-up for tutoring?

  1. Check with your instructor. If your tutors are using WISE, then:
  2. Go to the “My ____ Space” tab in WISE, click on the “Tutoring Sign-up” in the “Project Tools” menu on the left, and you will see the list of available meetings. (In order to view a particular meeting in the future, select one of the specifications in the drop-down menu)
  3. Click on the meeting that interests you and you will see the time slots available.
  4. Click on <Sign-Up>, and if you want, write a comment about what you would like to work on.

Q: I can’t make it to the meeting. How do I cancel it?

A: Find the meeting in the list, click on “Cancel Sign-up”. If it’s short-notice, email the tutor as well so if need be, they can spend that time slot working with someone else.

 

Q: If I know about an event happening related to class how do I get the word out?

A: Email your Language Assistant. They will put an announcement about it on the Language Space on WISE, and on the “Event Blog.”
