Zoom

Zoom is automatically integrated into Canvas. These pages can help you get started and troubleshoot issues.

Zoom is a third-party application and will always open meetings in a separate window or within the Zoom application when you click on your course meeting links. If you see this configuration message, you can ignore it and proceed to the Zoom meeting.

Enabling Zoom in a Course

Zoom may not be automatically enabled in your course. After you enable it in a course you will able to use it whenever you want, but you must enable it for each course individually.

First, click on the "Settings" tab in the course menu on the left side of the screen.

Locate the Settings tab

Next, click on the "Navigation" tab at the top of the Settings page. This will show you a list of items that are visible and invisible in your course. Visible items are automatically enabled and visible to students. The top list shows visible items, the bottom list shows invisible items.

Locating the settings navigation tab

Locate Zoom in the invisible items list. Drag it up to the list of visible items. You can rearrange this list however you choose by dragging and dropping the items.

Locating the disabled items in settings navigation

Once you have dragged Zoom into the list of visible items, scroll to the bottom of the Settings Navigation page and click the "Save" button to enable it! Now when you open your course, you will see Zoom in the left side course menu and you are able to set up meetings.

Creating a New Zoom Meeting for a Course

Within your course, open Zoom in the side bar.

On the integrated Zoom landing page, click the button at the top right that says "Schedule a New Meeting."

This will open a meeting creation page that allows you to set the time and duration of the meeting, set up recurring meetings for classes, set security restrictions, preferences for audio and video, enable the waiting room, and set options like enabling joining before the host, muting participants upon entry, and recording the meeting automatically. Once you have your meeting configured to your needs, be sure to click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

Canvas will then show you a summary of your Zoom meeting and give you the option to copy the meeting invitation. You can close this window if you are finished.

When you click on Zoom in your Canvas side bar you will see a list of meetings, and you can start or delete meetings from this page. By clicking on the link for a meeting, you can find the page summary with the "Copy Meeting Invitation" link.
