Zoom Integration for Audacity

The following guide will walk you through how to install the FFmpeg library that will enable you to use zoom audio only recording in audacity. This will also allow you to use a greater range of file formats in your workspace.

To start, navigate to the Audacity settings menu. On windows to go the edit drop down menu on the top bar and then click edit preferences. On Mac select the Audacity drop down menu and select Preferences. Once there you should see a screen that looks like this:

Navigate to the libraries section. Libraries are how Audacity processes different file formats. Once there Click “download” next to the line FFmpeg Library. This will take you to the install guide on Audacity’s website.

Now that you have reached the Audacity install guide click the “ FFmpeg installation section” link corresponding to your operating system.

Next, click the “Installing FFmpeg for Mac” or “Installing FFmpeg for Windows” link.

Lastly, click on the link “download page” on the new webpage on what they call step 1.

Now that you are on the actual download page select the recommended download for FFmpeg. Make sure not to accidentally download LAME because it will not be able to load zoom M4a files.

Next follow the installation guide for your OS. It should just ask you to click through a series of screens. It may ask you to input your password which you should do. Do not change the default location.

Finally go back to the Audacity settings menu and click “Locate”

It will either automatically find the file or ask you to select it. The file should be the only one in the folder it opens automatically if you are asked to select it. Once you have selected it, FFmpeg is installed! Restart your Audacity and it should be able to read Zoom’s m4a files.
