Summit is a shared regional service among academic libraries that allows physical materials to be lent, as well as facilitates access to unique and local collections. The Orbis Cascade Alliance consists of 38 colleges and universities in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Generally, materials arrive more quickly than interlibrary loan and can be checked out much longer. Members use a shared interface to search for and request items.
Interlibrary loan is a national service that enables a user of one library to borrow books or receive copies of documents that are owned by another library. Users make a request through their local library. The library, acting as an intermediary, requests and receives items, make materials available to the user, and arrange for their return. Other items such as book chapters, articles, audio recordings, video recordings, sheet music, and microform can be requested through interlibrary loan.
