Accessing a topic in Currently Published Newspapers

Here is an example of a search strategy (shown in red) to identify newspaper articles that focused on Donald Trump's presidential inauguration speech that can locate articles in each of the following newspaper oriented databases:

trump and president* and inaugur* and (address* or speech or speak* or official*)

Hatfield Library offers access to 5 databases that provide access to broad varieties of newspapers in various clusters:

  • Access World News (2,200 participating newspapers in North America + 1,200 from other countries + 300 wire services + 200 broadcast news transcripts) 
  • International NewsStream (coverage of participating newspapers outside of North America) 
  • News from Gale OneFile (over 1,000 newspapers including Christian Science Monitor, and the San Francisco Chronicle) 
  • Newspaper Source (includes transcripts from news programs on NPR, CBS, ABC, FOX, and CNN) 
  • US NewsStream (participating newspapers include:  NY Times; Wall Street Journal; Chicago Tribune; Los Angeles Times; Washington Post and news wire service).  Also includes coverage from television, radio and cable news & public affairs programs such as "60 Minutes".
