Course Description

This course explores the world of instructional design to shape learning experiences. Throughout this hands-on course, you will learn to craft real-world, compelling educational experiences in digital environments that resonate with today's learners. Instructional design is a creative process that uses learning theories, content expertise, communication, writing, and technology to create experiences for today's learners. We will examine how instructional designers apply cognitive, behavioral, and constructivist theories as they work in cognitive and affective domains to present information for diverse learners. The course emphasizes the importance of clear, concise, and engaging communication and Universal Design for Learning principles in conveying complex ideas, as well as the art of tailoring instruction for specific audiences, such as school, a workplace environment, or public outreach. The projects completed throughout this course will serve as tangible demonstrations of students' instructional design and communication skills, allowing them to build an online portfolio that showcases these skills.
