Interlibrary loan is a service that enables a user of one library to borrow books or receive copies of documents that are owned by another library.

Users make a request through their local library. The library, acting as an intermediary, will request and receive items, make materials available to the user, and arrange for their return.

Other items such as book chapters, articles, audio recordings, video recordings, sheet music, and microform can be requested through interlibrary loan.

Checkout period:  ILL items check-out length is determined by the lending library's policies.

Renewals:  The Interlibrary Loan form attached to the book or video will note if a renewal is NOT possible.  If there is no note to this effect a renewal request will be submitted for you a few days prior to the due date.  If the lending library grants a renewal, you will be emailed the new due date.  If the lending library declines the renewal request, you will be emailed the "must-return-by" date.

Lost, Damaged or Unreturned Items: Lost, damaged and/or unreturned ILL items are $75.00 per item and an additional $15.00 non-refundable processing fee, for a total of $90.00 per item. For students, at the end of the semester, all fines and fees will be sent to your student account. If the item is returned immediately after billing, a $75.00 refund may be issued per item if the library has not been billed by the lending library for the item(s).

All items requested via ILL are subject to copyright and fair use restrictions. As such, a significant number of requests from a single source/time frame can invoke high costs to cover copyright use fees. Large expenditures for single ILL requesters can negatively impact our ability to purchase or license resources for the collection therefore we reserve the right to refuse requests.

The University Libraries comply with the American Library Association interlibrary loan code.
