Each year, the Mark O. Hatfield Library and the Willamette Store collaborates with the Salem-Keizer School District to identify one local public school, from a list of nominated schools, to be the recipient of the books collected that year.
The annual Tree of Giving takes place at the end of the fall semester. We invite the Willamette community to donate children's books (new and used books in good condition) to help promote literacy in the Salem area. Hats, gloves, and scarves are also welcomed.
While you're out and about doing your shopping, why not pick out a book for this worthwhile cause?
Please drop off all items at one of the following locations between November 17th and January 17th:
- Mark O. Hatfield Library
- Willamette Store
Get 25% off children's books at the Willamette store on titles donated to the Tree of Giving book drive.
Hoover Elementary School
Hoover Elementary School is a kindergarten through fifth-grade school located in northeast Salem. Around 500 students attend this school; their school colors are royal blue and white, and their school mascot is the hound dog.
Since 2007, students across Oregon have participated in the Battle of the Books. Students form small teams, read preselected books, and then compete in a tournament (somewhat like Jeopardy) in which student teams earn points by answering questions about the books on the book list. This year's chosen titles are listed below and would be good choices for donation:
3rd to 5th Grade Division
