PNCA Library Access FAQ

PNCA FAQ

This FAQ/Timeline is intended to help PNCA-based students, faculty, and staff access the library and information resources that are available to the broader Willamette community.

Staff members of the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) and Mark O. Hatfield (MOHL) libraries are working together to create an Integrated University Library system and integrated services. We hope to use this guide to keep you updated on how to best access our resources. Our primary goals are to ensure all students, faculty, and staff have access to the same electronic resources, discover those resources via the same interfaces (Catalog, Discovery System, Database Lists), and have a uniform level of service provided by librarians and staff as soon as possible. We have been working toward those goals for a number of months, but are also subject to some outside dependencies as our Human Resources and Information Technology departments work to consolidate information.

In general, we will be integrating PNCA based users into the current WU Library Catalog/Library Accounts and providing access to WU and PNCA-based electronic resources via WU's existing tools.  This will occur when data feeds of PNCA-based users are available to the University Libraries via HR and Willamette Information Technology Services (WITS).

As a member of the Willamette University community you should feel free to contact either library:

Estimated Timeline for PNCA-based users to access MOHL-based resources:

July

PNCA-based users are not yet available in Willamette HR and IT feeds

  • PNCA students, staff, and faculty will have the best results if they contact the PNCA Library and continue to use the PNCA Library resources and catalog.
  • PNCA will not have direct access to Willamette-based electronic information resources (ebooks, electronic periodicals, databases) or direct borrowing of physical resources from the MOHL.
    • If access is needed, please contact the PNCA Library and they will work with the MOHL to meet your needs
  • Physical access to the MOHL will be by appointment only.
  • Access to books in the Orbis Cascade Alliance will be via InterlIbrary Loan (ILL).

August

PNCA based users ARE available in Willamette HR and IT feeds

  • The PNCA library catalog and user accounts will be integrated into the current WU system and physical resources will be discoverable for both libraries in that system.
    • The search box and user account links on both libraries' websites will access the same information.
  • The majority of WU electronic resources (ebooks, electronic journals, databases) will be available to PNCA users and may be discovered and accessed via the e-journal and database finder embedded on either library's website.
  • PNCA users may request MOHL-based physical materials via the catalog.
  • PNCA users will have access to the MOHL via swiping your ID card.
  • Summit-based borrowing from Orbis Cascade Alliance libraries will be fully available to PNCA users.

September/October

  • Other integrations to be announced as they occur.

Hatfield Library Policies

The library has a number of policies to ensure and protect the reputation of the institution - best realized through the adoption of clearly written library policies. Written policies provide consistency for students, staff, faculty and community members, help to resolve misunderstandings, reduce incidents of conflict and help to protect from litigation.
