IDS 101: Longevity Across the Globe: Your Librarian

Colloquium Description

The United States currently ranks 51st in life expectancy in the world. Why is that? What factors support longevity in humans? How do these factors differ around the world? We will examine differences between nations that include health and health care policy, social factors, geography, industrial development, concepts of work and leisure, genetic contributors to longevity, cultural and lifestyle factors involving nutrition, physical activity, and spirituality. We will consult a range of sources including statements from international organizations on health and aging, news articles and other news media, original research articles, personal interviews, and documentary and other films. We will engage with local agencies on aging, to learn about and contribute to their endeavors.
