Use of Library Classroom: Main

Use of Library Classroom

The mission of the Mark O. Hatfield Library is to support student and faculty study, research and teaching. The library is a university library; the primary function of the Library Classroom in the Mark O. Hatfield Library is to provide a place for librarians to conduct course-related library instruction and library meetings. Working in conjunction with faculty members, librarians provide guidance in the use of research tools and strategies, demonstrate the use of electronic resources, and offer help with the research process.

The classroom can be used for a variety of other instructional purposes as well. The room can be used by Willamette faculty who want to meet with their classes on an occasional basis in the library. Willamette Integrated Technology Services staff may use the room for computer training. This room is also available to Willamette faculty or staff for showing video recordings to their classes and available for students to check out in the evenings after 6 p.m.

Other requests to use the Library Classroom should be sent to the Associate University Librarian for Collections, Teaching, and Research, Joni Roberts. To have the room unlocked, ask at the Circulation Desk.

Use of the room is governed by the following guidelines:

  • Priority will be given to library instruction sessions. During the first two months of each semester, the room is heavily used for this purpose. During this heavy use period, schedulers from outside the library may only reserve the room five days in advance of using it.
  • Only Willamette faculty/staff may schedule the room--the faculty/staff member is responsible for the conduct of the group using the room.
  • Report problems with the equipment to the Circulation Desk or any library staff person.
  • The use of the room should not disrupt the library's operation or an environment conducive to study, reflection and research.
  • The maximum capacity of the room is 25 people.
  • Reservation of the room is restricted to weekdays, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. during the academic year and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. during the summer.
  • During the school year, if not in use, the room is available for checkout by students after 6 p.m. for a four-hour checkout.
