"The American Verse Project is a collaborative project between the University of Michigan Humanities Text Initiative (HTI) and the University of Michigan Press. The project is assembling an electronic archive of volumes of American poetry prior to 1920."

This site contains selected poems from contemporary poets. Includes sound files of the poets reading their poems. Sponsored by the University of North Carolina Press and the North Carolina Arts Council.

"A historical anthology of English poetry, from the early medieval period to the beginning of the twentieth century, which includes about 730 poems by roughly 80 authors. Based on the University of Toronto Press publication of the same name (3rd edition, revised, 1967)."

This site includes the works of selected American and British poets and writers from the 18th-early 20th centuries, as well as classic reference works. Originally based at Columbia University, Bartleby is now a commercial site, however the titles are available free of charge.

"A repository for information about Canadian writers, novelists, poets, playwrights, essayists, Canadian literary organizations, magazines, publications, texts and library archives. It is a project of the English Department of the University of Manitoba."

The texts of Shakespeare's works. Includes a keyword index to the works and other miscellaneous Shakespearean information. Created and maintained at MIT by Jeremy Hylton.

The Electronic Beowulf Project, developed by The British Library and U.S. scholars Kevin Kiernan and Paul Szarmach, has assembled a huge database of digital images of the Beowulf manuscript and related manuscripts and printed texts.

This "Web Page for Humanities Research" contains an amazingly comprehensive collection of links. Created by Alan Liu, professor in the English Dept. at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

"An evolving digital library on ancient Greece and Rome." A fabulous, interdisciplinary site, maintained at the Department of Classics, Tufts University.

"The On-Line Books Page is a directory of books that can be freely read right on the Internet." Contains over 10,000 texts, pointers to other directories, and special exhibits, including Banned Books On-Line, a list of some of the more well-known books that have been banned, suppressed or censored throughout history. Edited by John Mark Ockerbloom, a digital library planner and researcher at the University of Pennsylvania.
