Library Mobile Resources: Authentication and Access

Authentication and Remote Access

Even when you are on campus, your phone or mobile device may not be connected to the Willamette network.

Most library databases and ejournals are licensed for current WU students, faculty, and staff only. Database and journal publishers ofter determine your access rights based on the IP address of the device you are using.

The standards for authentication on mobile devices are evolving.

  • Some devices use your WU email as your authentication.

  • Other publishers require you to create a personal account from an on-campus computer before accessing the mobile site. Your login credentials then become your username and password for the mobile app or site.

  • Some publishers use device pairing, usually by sending you an authentication email after you log in to the site. Pairing  may expire after 6 to 12 months, after which you will need to pair your device again.

Read the instructions for each app carefully and be sure to ask us if you have any questions about access.
