Interlibrary Loan: Borrowing Policies & Procedures

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan is a service that enables a user of one library to borrow materials or receive copies of documents that are owned by another library.  Because of the Coronavirus, libraries currently are not loaning physical items to one another but continue to offer copies of articles and book chapters. The user makes a request with their local library, which, acting as an intermediary, identifies owners of the desired item, places the request, receives the item, and makes it available to the user.

Ordering Materials

Via the ILL Request Form:

Requests can be placed through the Interlibrary Loan page. After logging in, select the correct form on the right hand side under Make New Request. Enter the details of the item you need into the request form, and submit.

Within our databases:

When you find an article that does not offer full text, click on the "Find it at Willamette" button.  This will take you to our journal finder and if it says "No full text available," click on "Request on ILL."  All of the information you need for your request will be automatically transformed into the Interlibrary Loan request form.

If you have any problems requesting materials through Interlibrary Loan, email: ill@willamette.edu or call 503-370-6267.

Miscellaneous Information

All items requested via ILL are subject to copyright and fair use restrictions. As such, a significant number of requests from a single source/time frame can invoke high costs to cover copyright use fees. Large expenditures for single ILL requesters can negatively impact our ability to purchase or license resources for the collection therefore we reserve the right to refuse requests.

The Mark O. Hatfield Library complies with the American Library Association interlibrary loan code.
